Getting to Jersey couldn’t be easier. Part of the Common Travel Area, our island is just a short flight or ferry ride away from the UK or Ireland, with plenty of options to suit your travel style. Whether you prefer hopping on a direct flight or throwing everything in the car and cruising onto the ferry, you’ll be starting your Jersey escape in no time at all. If you’re travelling from Europe, regular ferries run from the charming Port of St. Malo and direct flights also operate from certain French and German airports during the busier months of the year.

With over 20 departure points across the UK and Ireland, flights to Jersey take around an hour or less. There are also direct flights available from select European airports.
Or travel by car, bike or foot on ferries from Poole, Portsmouth or Saint-Malo – with overnight cabin crossing and faster daytime boats available.

Passports & Visas
If you’re travelling from the UK, passports are not generally required – all you need is a form of photo I.D. We do recommend always checking with your airline and ferry company, before travelling, to confirm the identification that is required. Also check the terms/policies ahead of booking.
Delays & Cancellations
We hope your journey to Jersey is hassle-free, but sometimes factors beyond our control can impact travel. In the event that your flight to or from Jersey is delayed or cancelled, policies for compensation vary by carrier. We strongly recommend checking terms and conditions with your airline prior to booking your travel.
Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
An Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is a digital permission to travel – not a visa. It allows multiple trips to Jersey and the Common Travel Area (CTA) for stays of up to six months at a time, valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. The CTA is defined as an open-border zone comprising the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey.
Most non-British and non-Irish nationals travelling to Jersey from outside the CTA will need one. Check GOV.UK to confirm whether this applies to you before you travel.
Exceptions – you won’t need an ETA if you:
- Are a French national making a same-day trip via an approved ferry service, using a French national identity card (travelling directly from France only)
- Are a French student under 19 travelling as part of an organised school group
Applying is simple. It costs £20 per person (including children and babies), takes around 10 minutes, and you’ll usually receive a decision by email within three working days.
For an ETA for travel to Jersey, apply via the UK Government website, GOV.UK, using the UK ETA app or the online form. Make sure you apply before you travel.

There are 13 direct, year-round flights from all over the UK, including London, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Southampton, plus many seasonally operated flights from other UK, Ireland and European airports. In around an hour, or less, you’ll be stepping off the plane and straight into the island’s heart. With frequent flights and plenty of options, it’s the perfect way to begin your Jersey adventure.

At the airport
The moment you step off the plane, Jersey’s charm is waiting to welcome you. Getting to your next destination is a breeze—whether you’re heading straight to the beach or into St. Helier. Outside the Arrivals terminal, you’ll find a bus stop with regular services, plus a taxi rank for a quick, comfortable ride.
Car rental, which we would recommend booking in advance of your trip, is available from Avis Budget, Europcar and Hertz, with operators located in the Arrivals building. You can also hire an EVie electric car at the airport. These are A2B cars which you can drive to any other A2B locations across the island.
No matter how you choose to travel, Jersey’s relaxed vibe starts the moment you land, making your journey just as enjoyable as the adventure that awaits.
At the harbour
Arriving into the harbour means that you’re just a stone’s throw from the bustling market town of St. Helier. If you’ve come by bike or foot, it’s just a few minutes’ walk or cycle into town. This is where you’ll also find Liberty Bus Station, offering regular services to all corners of the island.
For a smooth, eco-friendly way to explore the island, hop into an EVie electric car. If you’d rather be driven by a friendly local, simply head to the taxi rank for a quick and comfortable journey to your destination.
