Stay safe with the TIDAL checklist
T – Tide & terrain awareness
Check local tide times before setting off — it’s easy to get caught out. Some sections can be walked along the beach at low tide, but alternative sections are always provided where feasible. These may occasionally follow roads, so take extra care.
I – Inform & prepare
Mobile reception isn’t always reliable. Let someone know your planned route and return time in advance. Bring snacks and plenty of water, especially in hot weather — though you’ll find plenty of great refuelling stops along the trail.
D – Dress for the day
Wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. Weather can change quickly on the coast, so pack layers and be ready for anything.
A – Avoid risks
Stick to the marked path and stay away from cliff edges, which may be unstable. If the walk becomes too difficult, don’t hesitate to turn back.
L – Location in emergencies
If you need help, dial 999. If you’re unsure of your location, use the what3words app to share your coordinates — emergency services can use this to find you quickly. If your mobile provider doesn’t cover Jersey, arrange an eSIM.
Leave only footprints
Let’s keep Jersey as pristine as nature intended. When exploring the Jersey Tidal Trail, please bin your litter, respect the wildlife and help protect our island’s precious coastal habitats so future wanderers can enjoy the same wonderful, natural beauty.

“As well as the surfers who drop by throughout the week with hearty appetites, Davies’ other regulars include the island’s cyclists and hikers. I fall in the latter camp, having come here to tackle Jersey’s new Tidal Trail, a 48-mile loop that circumnavigates its dramatic coastline, with each stretch shining a light on the island’s past and present.”
